Before you put your shovel in the ground for a spring landscaping project  that involves digging or excavation of any kind (fencing? gardening? building a retaining wall?), be sure to contact the “Call Before You Dig” people so they can mark out exactly where the utilities (cable, electric, sewer, water, etc) are on on your property.  Contacting them is easy (we just did it!).  You can either call them at 800-272-1000 (that’s what we did), or through their website.  Be prepared to answer a lot of simple questions (detailed at the FAQ section of their website).  Additionally, if you’re having friends help you dig or if you’re hiring a contractor, they have to call for clearance, too — each person doing any digging whatsoever has to have their own clearance.
